NOMAD is Operational

Deep Search System Tested in Chesapeake Bay

Lusby, Maryland - Nauticos' new Deep Towed Search System, NOMAD, completed its final operational checkout before deployment to the Mediterranean and operations on the DAKAR Project in October.  NOMAD includes a sled-like frame, a hydraulic compensation system, and interface electronics that can be easily configured with numerous sonar and imaging sensors; it will be capable of searching to a depth of 6,000 meters.  The heart of the system is a state-of-the-art fiber optic data telemetry system that will be used to transfer data at very high bandwidths.  NOMAD is fitted with a Klein 2000 side scan sonar system that has been modified by Nauticos for deepwater operations with both 50 and 500 kHz transducers.  These frequencies will enable us to perform wide area surveys efficiently as well as close up inspections for classification and identification purposes.  NOMAD’s telemetry system is easily configurable to accept a wide range of electronic still cameras or video cameras to suit the needs of different projects. Our software designers wrote the software with versatility in mind, so it can be easily adapted.
